Dating with Discernment

To honestly evaluate a dating relationship's alignment with God's Word and your long-term calling.

Scripture

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. — Proverbs 3:5-6

Seeking God's wisdom over emotional impulse when evaluating a relationship.

Preparation

Approach this conversation with honesty. Be willing to ask hard questions and listen to the Holy Spirit's prompting, even if it is difficult.

Questions

  1. What do we admire most about each other's character and walk with God?
  2. Are we pulling each other closer to Christ, or are we distracting each other from Him?
  3. How do we currently handle physical and emotional boundaries, and do they honor God?
  4. What are our individual callings, and do they seem compatible for a shared future?
  5. How do our close friends and spiritual mentors view our relationship?
  6. Are there any red flags or recurring issues we have been avoiding discussing?
  7. How do we each approach finances, debt, and generosity?
  8. What is our view on the role of the local church in our lives?
  9. How do we resolve disagreements, and is there mutual respect when we differ?
  10. Are we ready to move toward a more serious commitment, or do we need more time for clarity?
